Feature spotlights PSPA’s mission, rapid growth, and expanding presence across Greater Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – October 2, 2025 – The Philadelphia Student Press Association (PSPA) announced today that the organization was recently featured in The Gleaner, Rutgers University–Camden’s student-run newspaper. The article, written by Isabella Deitz and published on October 2, highlights PSPA’s expanding role as a regional hub for student journalists and its growing collaborations across Philadelphia and South Jersey.
The feature opens with PSPA’s September appearance on the PECO billboard in Center City Philadelphia, marking a significant visibility milestone for the young nonprofit. It goes on to detail PSPA’s mission to strengthen the voices of student journalists by uniting newsrooms from nine colleges and universities, including Rutgers–Camden, Haverford, Drexel, La Salle, Villanova, Saint Joseph’s, Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Rowan.
Founder Jackson Juzang, a senior at Haverford College, shared the origins of the organization in the piece. “I took on the challenge of creating an umbrella organization to be able to connect with other student-run newspapers in the city, and it also stemmed from Haverford’s lack of resources for student journalists,” Juzang said.
The article also features insight from Rutgers–Camden senior Melina Zevallos, who emphasized the importance of reporting on opportunities, events, and stories that resonate with Philadelphia-area college students—a focus that aligns closely with PSPA’s mission.
The Gleaner additionally covered PSPA’s on-the-ground engagement, including its participation in CollegeFest, a major annual event welcoming thousands of students to Philadelphia in mid-September.
Looking ahead, Juzang told The Gleaner that long-term goals include supporting revitalization of dormant student newspapers, strengthening internship pipelines with professional newsrooms, and reallocating funding to sustain independent student journalism across the region.
