If you happened to look up in Center City this week, you might have caught a glimpse of Philly Student Press shining bright on one of Philadelphia’s most iconic landmarks — the PECO building sign.
Across the massive LED display, our message lit up the skyline:
“Our City. Our Voice. Our Story. www.phillystudentpress.org”
For the Philadelphia Student Press Association (PSPA), this moment was more than just a spotlight. It was a celebration of student journalism and the voices that shape our city from the ground up.
A Milestone for Student Journalism
The PECO sign is a landmark that Philadelphians instantly recognize — a symbol that reflects the city’s pride, resilience, and community. To see our words displayed there was both humbling and inspiring.
Student journalism has always played a vital role in capturing the stories that matter on campus and beyond. From covering elections and cultural events to amplifying the perspectives of students who call Philadelphia home, our reporters and editors are deeply connected to the pulse of the city. Being featured on the PECO building makes that work visible in the most literal way possible, casting our mission across the skyline for thousands to see.
Our City. Our Voice. Our Story.
This message is more than a tagline — it’s the foundation of everything we do.
Our City: Philadelphia isn’t just where we live and study — it’s the community we serve through storytelling.
Our Voice: We believe student perspectives add depth and nuance to the city’s media landscape.
Our Story: Together, as a coalition of campus publications, we’re writing the narrative of what it means to be young journalists in Philadelphia today.
Looking Forward
The PECO feature is just the beginning. PSPA will continue building bridges between student reporters and the civic and cultural life of Philadelphia — expanding resources, launching collaborations, and amplifying the voices of the next generation of journalists.
This city deserves to hear from its students. And thanks to PECO, our message reached the skyline itself.
Because Philadelphia deserves to hear our city, our voice, our story.
