Swarthmore
The Phoenix
Established in 1881, The Phoenix is the independent, student-run newspaper of Swarthmore College. As the college’s only print newspaper, it has been an enduring platform for campus news, opinion, and student voices. The publication operates entirely independently of the administration and maintains editorial freedom, allowing student journalists to report without oversight or restrictions. While funded through the Office of Student Engagement, its independence is preserved through the Student Budget Committee’s process, ensuring full editorial control remains with its staff. Known for its high-quality journalism, The Phoenix continues to uphold its tradition of critical inquiry, transparency, and dedication to the Swarthmore community.
