Feature highlights PSPA’s mission, its rapid expansion, and the growing collaboration across Greater Philadelphia’s student newsrooms

PHILADELPHIA – September 18, 2025 – The Philadelphia Student Press Association (PSPA) announced today that the organization was recently featured in The La Salle Collegian, La Salle University’s independent student newspaper. Written by Editor Claire Herquet, the feature explores PSPA’s origins, mission, and accelerating growth as a new force supporting student journalism across the region.

The article frames student journalism as an essential training ground for the next generation of media professionals—and positions PSPA as a long-awaited organization fully dedicated to elevating student reporters’ work, strengthening cross-campus collaboration, and ensuring young voices have a place in Philadelphia’s wider media ecosystem.

“Student journalism has always been central to Philadelphia’s story,” the piece notes, emphasizing the city’s long legacy of newsrooms shaping public life. PSPA, founded in April 2025 by Haverford College senior Jackson Juzang, aims to unite these student storytellers under one collaborative network.

In the feature, Juzang discusses one of the core challenges PSPA is working to address: bridging generational gaps in media consumption and fostering deeper engagement with local reporting. “I want to fix consumption issues from the media…and try to figure out ways that there can be connectivity among our generation,” he told the Collegian. “[Short-form domination and individualism] are something I’m looking to spearhead.”

The Collegian also highlights PSPA’s early growth, noting that the organization quickly brought together student-run newspapers across the region and established a dedicated executive board of emerging young journalists. PSPA’s goals include expanding shared resources, creating mentorship opportunities with professional newsrooms, and increasing training and networking for student reporters.

As PSPA prepares for additional events and cross-campus programming, the feature underscores the organization’s broader mission: to amplify student voices, promote community-centered reporting, and strengthen Philadelphia’s overall media landscape.
