The Philadelphia Student Press Association (PSPA) is proud and deeply grateful to announce a transformative $10,000 gift from Steve Kelly, a healthcare entrepreneur, investor, and longtime advocate for equity and innovation.

This generous contribution marks a major milestone for PSPA as we continue building a sustainable, citywide network that supports student journalists across Philadelphia’s colleges and universities.

Investing in the Next Generation of Journalists

Steve Kelly has spent more than four decades applying business leadership to create fairer, more accessible systems—particularly in healthcare. As a co-founder and longtime president and CEO of ELAP Services (now Imagine360), Steve has led efforts to challenge inefficiencies, prioritize transparency, and ensure underserved communities are not left behind.

That same commitment to equity and long-term impact is what makes his support of student journalism so meaningful.

Student journalists are often working with limited resources while covering stories that matter deeply to their campuses and to the city of Philadelphia. From local elections and City Hall to arts, culture, and community issues, student reporters play a critical role in informing their peers and engaging with civic life. Steve’s gift is an investment in those voices and in the future of journalism itself.

What This Gift Makes Possible

PSPA exists to amplify student voices, strengthen campus journalism, and connect student reporters to Philadelphia’s civic and cultural life. This $10,000 contribution directly supports that mission by helping us:

  • Expand paid opportunities and reporting grants for student journalists

  • Provide shared tools and resources to student-run newsrooms

  • Strengthen mentorship and partnerships with local media professionals

  • Build sustainable infrastructure for collaborative, citywide reporting

As PSPA continues to grow, alumni and community support like this is essential to ensuring that student journalism remains accessible, equitable, and impactful.

We extend our sincere thanks to Steve Kelly for his leadership, generosity, and belief in the power of student journalism. Support like this allows PSPA to continue strengthening campus newsrooms, elevating student voices, and preparing the next generation of media leaders in Philadelphia and beyond.

If you’re interested in supporting PSPA’s work or learning more about our mission, we invite you to get involved and help us continue building a stronger future for student journalism—together.
