About the event

Reporting With, Not On: Community Journalism in Practice
Co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Journalism Collaborative and the Philadelphia Student Press Association (PSPA)
What does it truly mean to report with communities rather than on them? This conversation invites journalists, students, and storytellers to rethink traditional approaches to reporting by centering community trust, lived experience, and collaboration. Instead of parachuting into neighborhoods to tell stories from the outside, community-centered journalism asks us to listen deeply, build long-term relationships, and share the microphone with those most affected by the issues we cover.
Hosted at Temple University’s Annenberg Hall (Room 304), this discussion brings together three of Philadelphia’s leading journalists who are redefining what ethical, community-based reporting looks like in practice.
